Village Health International (VHI) started in Haiti just after their infamous earthquake 2010. While working on relief projects it was clear they needed real  development instead of quick fixes.

After several conversations with leaders in surrounding  villages, VHI established what some of the highest needs were. After researching to learn the best ways to help meet these needs VHI used the concept of multiplication , simply meaning by teaching a few and sending them to teach others, many villages improved their health.

This multiplication process taught a few local people how to solve real health problems and in return they were then required  to teach 8 to 10 families in their village before they were given the next lesson.

Because of these efforts, 30 communities have built around 3000 latrines for themselves. They have learned how to use the sun to purify water, and the importance of nutrition for overall health, just to name a few.
